i love and relate to Usopp sooo much, hes like one of my highest kins. not only cause of his anxiety, but when i was younger (and now, not just as much) i was a chronic liar. it was mostly a trauma response due to my neglectful parents, and id usually lie to make myself sound cooler or to get attention and i wouldnt rlly be able to control it. just seeing him do the exact same thing and still have people care for him is like. huh. so that can happen. (sorry if this is worded weirdly im bad at articulating my thoughts sometimes)
I love Usopp kinnies SO much. I am literally surrounded by them, honestly. My best friend is an Usopp kinnie and my fiancé too. They're my pookies. I luv them. Does this have anything to do with my own kin list? Probably!
I'm sorry you had to lie because of your parents. If it makes you feel any better I can just go and kick them. Parents should care about their children. You shouldn't have to lie to get people's attention, I'm sure you're a wonderful person without needing to do it. Although it's not something that you can't actually control most of the time, so,,, You're a wonderful person anyway, I'm sure. You deserved!!! Love!!! And attention!!! And people will love you no matter what!!! That thing doesn't establish whether you deserve love or not. I'm so so happy that at least you found comfort in Usopp. He's just,,, He's such a great character. He brings me so much comfort too. But that's just because I love him a lot and he's 100% the type of person I'd be friends with.
I know the feeling, by the way. Sanji is one of my highest kins too. And WCI changed my life because?? Wow??? Sanji sabotaging and sacrificing himself constantly like the stubborn, people-pleaser idiot he is because of his issues with his family and Luffy wanting him anyway??? The way they love him??? AND WANO????? Sanji there fucked me up completely. He's just like me fr. And I swear, watching a show that tells you "hey, is this who you are? Look at this character who's like you get loved!! Because they deserve love!!" it's just the most cathartic thing in the world. Not to mention Robin saying she wants to live. And Nami asking for help after being alone for so long. Like- One Piece really changes lives, huh.
#usopp kinnies my beloveds i mean it they're like the best people ever#and koby kinnies too i love koby kinnies#AND VIVI KINNIES#i am just mentioning my fiancé's kins i should shut up#but yeah usopp my beloved and i am really happy he helped you see you deserve to be loved !!!!!!#also neglectful parents kefbskjfb mood -> has a crazy mom and an emotionally unavailable dad. great combo. i hate it.#one piece#usopp

You werenât ready. Your mood dropped instantly as you saw the island on the horizon through your spyglass. Arlong Park. It was mere minutes away, really. Less than an hour. You swallowed the lump in your throat as you handed your spyglass over to Zoro next to you.
âAlmost there.â You whispered, leaning against the railing of the ship.
âWhen are you going to tell him?â Zoro muttered, scanning the area with your tool. You quirked an eyebrow, âYou gotta tell Luffy youâre leaving.â He mumbled.
Your heart skipped a beat, âOh-ohâŠIâm not leaving.â You started, playing with your fingers.
âYeah, you are.â Zoro scoffed, âYouâre all goo goo eyed over that fuckin clown. Youâre worse than the cook.â He jeered, nudging your shoulder.
You shook your head, heat rising to your cheeks, âIâm not going with him. I have stuff I need to do first.â You explained. âIâm here through Loguetown.â
Zoro nodded, handing your back your spyglass, âAfter that?â
âIâm going off with Buggy.â You admitted. âI told Luffy from the start that I wasnât gonna stay with him permanently.â You mumbled with a sorrowful look in your eye.
Zoro sighed, rolling his neck, âYou gonna be happy with him?â he asked, turning his head to look at you fully, âCause if youâll be happy, Luffy will be happy.â
You nodded softly, âHe makes me a happier person.â You said, âI think I really love him.â You said it so softly that Zoro could have thought it was his imagination, but he knew better.
âJustâŠtalk to Luffy soon. Donât put it off or Iâll tell him.â Zoro said finitely, walking away from you, toward where Usopp and Buggy were arguing on how to best maneuver getting to the island.
âI will.â You promise to the wind.
Getting onto the island was easier than you all had thought, using Buggy as a guide through the thicket toward the park.
You and Buggy sat outside Nojikoâs small home in Coco Village, you were leant up against a tangerine tree and holding Buggy over your stomach, stroking his hair and quietly reading through the last chapter of your book, â-as the princess stood tall for her final stand, hand in hand with her beloved knight, she couldnât help but smile wide, whispering to her beloved at her side, âI love you more than this world will allow, my dear. I cannot wait to hold you and love you without bound in the next.â.â
Buggy sank himself deeper into your hold, melting under your gentle ministrations. âYou should braid my hair again, eh pretty girl?â he muttered as you finished the last chapter, the bittersweet ending a satisfying conclusion, but a heavy reminder of your circumstances.
You hummed with a small smile and set the book down on the ground beside you, âOkay, but I want to keep playing with your hair. Can I just do one little one?â you asked, raising Buggyâs head up to your face and planting a quick kiss to the tip of his nose.
Buggy scrunched up his face and wiggled it a bit, âI donât mind, but damn, Doll. Weâve talked about the nose!â
You rolled your eyes and planted another kiss to his brow, âI remember talking about how much I love your nose, eh pretty boy?â you teased, running your hand through his soft blue hair. âSo just let me love on you while I can.â You chastised, bringing him in for a longer, deep kiss on the lips, your thumb stroking his cheekbone right under his eye, his lashes brushing against the very tip of your finger.
Buggy nipped at your bottom lip as you pulled him back, making you huff out a low laugh as you settled him back in your lap, already separating a small section of hair from right behind his left ear to braid.
âIâm gonna miss you, Starshine.â He mumbled, relaxing into your touch.
You smiled sadly, pinching the braid in one hand and using the other to stroke the side of his face soothingly, âIâll miss you too, Bugs.â
That night, you and Buggy slept under the stars, cuddled up close, his head resting comfortably under your chin.
When you and the other Straw-hats properly invaded the park, you and Buggy could feel the deep pull of anxiety as you both separated to find the rest of him.
After darting around a bit, you crested a hill and then he saw it. His body. It was strung up alongside some prizes in a game booth. You skidded to a stop, scanning the area to make sure it was clear, all the while, hugging Buggyâs head to your middle.
When you deemed it safe enough, you rushed over to the counter, letting Buggy float out of your grip as you got close enough. His head reattached to his neck and with glee he detached his hands and feet just long enough to free himself from his bindings, landing hard on the ground.
Buggy smiled wide, hopping over the counter and scooping you into his arms, spinning you for a moment. When he laid your feet back on the ground, you beamed, grabbing his face and drawing him into a deep kiss, his hands traveling over as much of your body as they could.
âOi! Clown!â You and Buggy drew away from each other. It was Zoro. He was looking for Buggy somewhere nearby.
Buggy rolled his eyes but turned to you, âYou sure you canât come with me, Doll Face?â
Your heart dropped to your feet as you shook your head, âI canât, Buggy. IâŠIf I go with you now, Iâd never forgive myself. I made a promise.â You said resolutely, âIâll see you soon.â You whispered, nudging him to go.
Buggy nodded, âSee ya, Sweet Cheeks.â He muttered quickly, pecking your cheek before bolting.
Zoro came around the corner, rushing to your side, âWhere did that fucker go?â
You smiled and shrugged, âHe had to go.â You said, boldly wearing his red kiss mark on your face, wiping at your stained lips.
The fight with Arlong and his fishmen had been difficult, not to mention those damned Marines, but you found the hardest part to be seeing poor Namiâs suffering. You wanted to find it in you to hate the younger woman for betraying you all, but you couldnât. You understood duty and desperation, more than most.
So, there you all sat on the Going Merry, a fragile air of comradery on the deck. Your next stop was Loguetown. You looked out over the calm waves, glistening under the setting sun, and you couldnât stop the little melancholy smile from spreading along your lips.
Buggy missed you. He constantly found himself turning to the side to tell you some joke or snide comment only to be met with Cabajiâs face, not yours.
Buggy saw you everywhere. He found a stone on one of the islands heâd stopped on. It wasnât anything super special, but it just happened to be a perfect color match for your eyes. Buggy had scowled at the stone, almost wishing he could explode it with his mind before chucking it back down at his feet into the incoming waves and stormed off. Only to immediately turn around, cursing the sky and sea and go to find it again. He had to make multiple attempts to grab it because the waves kept getting a bit too close or too high for Buggyâs comfort. It took him a half an hour to grab the stone again, but he did.
Cabaji had seen his captainâs antics from the ship but didnât say anything. He did, however, note that heâd often see his captain with his right hand in his pocket, clearly holding onto something. Sometimes when Cabaji would come into Buggyâs room to communicate goings-ons of the ship, heâd walk in on Buggy tossing the stone in his hand, over and over. Sometimes heâd simply be holding it, staring at it, stroking its smooth surface with his ungloved thumb. Cabaji didnât understand why he held on so tightly to the little rock. It would have made a good skipping stone, sure, but other than that, it wasâŠjust a rock. But nonetheless, his captain kept it with him. Cabaji often found himself breaking Buggy out of little bouts of daydreams, bringing the clown back to earth during meetings and rehearsals. Cabaji was concerned. What had happened while Buggy was with those Straw-Hats? Why was he soâŠdifferent?
There was a crewmate on the ship that had the same hair color as you, and Buggyâd find himself whipping around on a dime, thinking heâd seen you, just trying to lay eyes on you, but of course, you werenât there. You were at least three time zones away, sailing with those Straw-Hats. Buggy would scowl at the thought, crewmates flinching away from him. Buggy was one more sleepless night, missing the sound of your humming and feeling your fingers in his hair, from snapping and demanding his crew hunt the Straw-Hats down. All so he could finally have you to himself. The only reason he held himself back anymore was the conversation youâd had right before heâd had to run away.
âI canât, Buggy. IâŠIf I go with you now, Iâd never forgive myself. I made a promise.â
Buggyâs jaw set at the memory, his thumb running over the stone in his hand, the candle next to him licking over his fingers and its dull scent wafting over him. He wasnât mad at you per say. More so mad at the situation. He wanted you right there with him, lying next to him when he wakes up in the morning, cheering him on during rehearsals and shows, he wanted to teach you a few circus tricks. You seemed to already be good at knife throwing, just like him. Buggy often felt his chest swell with pride at the fact that you remembered how to do that, he had taught you after all.
Buggy kept having to remind himself that you didnât abandon him, the opposite in fact. You wanted him, you wanted to be around him. You just had something to do first. Buggy could wait. Absolutely. HeâŠcould wait. Maybe.
Buggy frowned as he walked his way through the main town center. He had his eye out for one thing and one thing only, the bounty board. âGod where is it?!â his gaze roved over the square, finally landing on the patchwork bulletin board. Buggy shoved his way through the crowd, making a beeline toward it, only stepping on a few peopleâs toes. When he made it up to the board, his eyes darted over the board faster than he thought possible, finally landing on what he was looking for. You had a poster. You had a bounty of 8,000,000 out for you, alive. Buggy studied your face, looking for an inkling of a grin, but he found no such thing, only finding a look of disgust aimed at the camera, a snarl curling your face, your arm pulled back to lay a punch onto whatever unfortunate Marine had tried to get your picture. You hadnât found it yet.
âSon of a bitch!â Buggy exclaimed, ripping your poster down and stomping back toward the docks, heading back to the Big Top. âCanât catch a break, dammit.â Buggy mumbled and grumbled as he made his way through the crowded streets, shoulder clocking someone, âWatch where youâre going.â He hissed.
âRude, Captain.â It was Cabaji. He held Buggyâs eye with a disappointed glower, âPermission to speak freely?â
Buggy was taken aback, âUh, sure I guess.â
Cabaji nodded, gesturing for Buggy to follow him into a quiet alley nearby. When they were far enough away from the crowds to not have to call over the noise, Cabaji settled, leaning against the damp stone wall and frowned. Buggy stood across from him, hands in his pockets, one running a thumb over the rock. Cabaji noted this with a furrowed brow, âCaptain,â he started with a sigh, âYouâve beenâŠweird lately.â
Buggy recoiled, face scrunching in annoyance, âFuck you mean?â
Cabaji rolled his eyes, pointing at Buggyâs hand, still in his pocket, âYouâre holding onto a rock. Not gold, not a gem, some normal ass rock,â he stated, âYouâre more snippy than usual, which is saying something, and you just donât seem veryâŠpresent.â Cabaji finished, fingers beginning to fiddle with the ends of his hair.
Buggyâs jaw clenched, but after a moment, he sighed, slumping his shoulders before slowly dragging his back down the wall, sitting on the cobbled ground. âI know.â
Cabajiâs eyes widened, âSee! Even thatâs weird!â he insisted, gesturing wildly, âYou would usually throw a damned knife at me for saying any of this! Whatâs wrong?â He asked, crouching down to level with his captain. âWhat happened while you were with those Straw-Hats?â
Buggy scowled, ripping his ungloved hand out of his pocket, the stone in the center of his grip, and studied it as he spoke, âItâs not like they tortured me or something.â He started, causing Cabajiâs confusion to visibly grow, âI mean they werenât nice obviously, butâŠâ Buggy hesitated, finding his words. âOne of them was.â He finally said, meeting Cabajiâs eye.
Cabaji blinked a few times, trying to process what that could mean, âHow does that-â
Buggy cut him off, âIt was Gale.â He spat, cradling the stone more. Cabajiâs mouth dropped open a bit and he sat down fully then, cocking his head to think. âShe didnât even know it was me, but she wasâŠgreat!â Buggy continued, âShe fed me, read to me, let me sleep in her bed, hell she washed my damned hair!â he exclaimed, squeezing the stone tightly. âAnd she likes me.â He mumbled, pushing his knees up to his chest. âShe really actually likes me.â
Cabaji took a moment, unsure how to proceed, âWell, do you like her?â he asked awkwardly, fiddling with his hair again.
Buggy rolled his eyes with a huff, âThe fuck do you think?â he snapped, holding up the stone where Cabaji could see, âI carry around this stupid rock because itâs the same color of her eyes, I have her bounty poster,â he continued, ripping the paper out of his pocket, shoving it into Cabajiâs lap, âAnd I still have this braid in my hair because she did it.â Buggy finished, tugging the small braid out of his bandana. âIâm fucking whipped!â
Cabaji couldnât help but smirk a bit, âSounds like it.â He chuckled, âDid you close the deal?â
Buggy felt heat rise to his face, eyes suddenly focused on the stone again, âI was just a head, soâŠkinda.â He coughed out.
Cabaji threw his head back in a cackle at that, âHoly shit, Captain!â he chided, smacking Buggyâs leg, âStill got it, huh?â
âNever really had it.â Buggy mumbled, rolling his eyes.
Cabaji grinned and unfolded the bounty poster in his lap and his brows shot up, âYou bagged her?â he asked incredulously, âSheâs fuckin gorgeous!â
âHey! Thatâs my girl youâre talkinâ about!â Buggy hissed, snatching the poster. âButâŠyes. I donât know how I did it.â He chuckled, looking at your snarled face in your picture.
âWhere is she?â Cabaji asked, âShe still with the Straw-Hats?â
Buggy frowned, âYeah.â
âLetâs go get her.â Cabaji stated simply, âI mean if she likes you, I donât think sheâd mind.â
âCanât.â
âWhy?â
âI have to wait.â Buggy explained. He saw Cabajiâs mouth open to ask why, but he cut him off, âSheâs looking for something, Straw-Hatâs helping her. When she finds it, I can find her. We made a deal.â
Cabaji frowned, âShitty deal.â
Buggy shrugged, âIâm not gonna stop her from doing what she has to do, I justâŠâ he sighed, âI miss her, I guess. I want her here now, but I know Iâm gonna have to wait.â
Cabaji nodded, mulling it over in his head before standing, extending a hand to his captain, âLetâs go. Iâll help with preparations for her arrival and ask some contacts to keep tabs on her, make sure sheâs safe.â Buggy smiled softly, clapping his hand into Cabajiâs who hoisted him up, âKnow where about she is?â
âLoguetown.â Buggy replied, walking stride for stride with the unicyclist, âThatâs where herâŠthing is.â He explained.
Cabaji wanted to know what this âthingâ was but didnât want to pry so he just nodded and kept walking. âSoâŠâ he asked, sunlight flowing over them as they emerged from the alley. Cabaji smirked a bit, âHowâs she feel about the uh-â he stopped himself, gesturing to Buggyâs face, especially the âcenterâ if you will.
Buggyâs eyes narrowed, âShut the fuck up about my nose.â He growled, punching Cabaji in the arm.
Cabaji laughed, rubbing the sting out of the area, âSorry, Boss. Curiosity killed the cat, you know?â Buggy rolled his eyes and kept walking. They remained in relative silence for the rest of the trek to the ship.
When they reached the ship, Buggy turned to head up to his captainâs quarters but hesitated, turning briefly to Cabaji, âShe likes it.â He called, turning on his heel and getting back to work, all to the tune of Cabajiâs barked laughter.
Your eyes roamed over the expanses of Loguetown, clocking Marine after Marine through your spyglass. âThisâll be a close one,â you muttered to Luffy, âCrawling with Marines.â
âWeâll be fine.â Your captain said, waving you off, âWeâll get you your-â Luffy cut himself off, sweeping the area, seeing you were both alone in the crowâs nest. â-fruit.â He whispered, âAnd then weâre off to the Grand Line! Easy peasy!â Luffy exclaimed, patting your shoulder.
You smiled at the boy, âWe need a plan, Luffy.â You reasoned, resuming your sweep of the island from afar.
âNamiâs coming up with something, donât worry about it!â he exclaimed, taking your spyglass out of your hands. Luffyâs smile shrank a bit as he closed it, âZoro told me I need to talk to you.â He muttered lowly.
You pursed your lips, sighing deeply before guiding Luffy to sit with you, âLuffy. Do you remember our deal?â you asked, holding his hand.
âWhich one?â he chuckled, âWe have two.â
You huffed out a laugh, âBoth, I guess.â
âYeah.â He assured, squeezing your hand. âI remember.â
âIâm ready.â You explained, âIâm ready to go off and do my own thing, live my own life. I want to try and pursue my dreams now, all thanks to you.â You nudged his shoulder with yours before wrapping an arm around his shoulder.
Luffy smiled wider, âYouâre gonna go perform?â he asked, eyes sparkling. âWhere?â
You bit your lips together before speaking, âYou remember Buggy?â Luffy nodded, âWellâŠI love him.â You confessed, waiting for Luffyâs reaction before you continued.
Realization dawned on Luffyâs face, âOh! Thatâs what that was!â he exclaimed, âI was wondering why you looked at him like that.â
You felt heat rise to your face at that, âYeah,â you took a deep breath, âI want to go with him, and I told him I would after I found myâŠthing.â You explained.
Luffy nodded, taking this all in, âYou want to join his crew.â He reasoned, wobbling his head side to side, âOkay.â
Your eyes shot wide, âOkay? Okay what?â
Luffy shrugged, smiling all the wider, âOkay, you can go. I wonât make you stay.â He explained, âJust donât forget about us. Maybe visit every once in a while.â
You beamed at the boy, wrapping him up in a tight hug, âGod, youâre such a good kid. Youâre gonna be an amazing King.â The hug lasted for a good while, neither wanting to let go.
Luffy pulled back from the hug to look at you, âYou said you knew Gol D. Roger?â he asked.
You nodded, âYeah! Not for very long.â You said, âRemember how I was telling you about Cardinal and Peacock?â
âYeah, Shanks!â
âThey were still sailing with Roger when I knew them. It was a few months before they disbanded.â You elaborated, âSo they brought me to meet Roger. I got to listen to his stories over dinner, and he let me onto the ship anytime I pleased while they stayed on my island. He even tried to get me to join them after he saw how well me, and the boys got along.â
âWait.â Luffy said, cogs turning hard in his head, âIf Cardinal was ShanksâŠthe clown said something about sailing with Shanks when they were young.â He said, watching as your eyes widened in realization, âWould that make Binky Peacock?â he asked, beaming up at you.
You visibly flinched back at the thought, âOh my God.â You whispered, âBuggyâs Peacock.â You shot up to your feet as you said that, beginning to pace as you spoke. âItâs been so long I couldnât remember their faces, I only remembered Buggyâs eyes! Oh my god, itâs him!â you exclaimed. âLuffy!â
Said boy shot up with you, waving his arms around, wildly, âHeâs your friend!â
âOh, you beautiful, brilliant boy!â you squealed, picking him up and spinning him in an embrace, âWe have to get that fruit now!â you exclaimed, setting him down. âCause I gotta see Buggy!â
Luffy nodded with you, ready to climb down and tell the other Straw-Hats to hurry up the plans when he stopped, handing you back your spyglass, only a tiny grin pulling at his lips now, âIâm gonna miss you Clown Lady.â
You melted a bit, reaching out to hold the young boyâs face for a moment, âIâll miss you too.â You said, a mischievous grin spreading over your face, âCall me when youâre king if you ever need a jester.â You chided, pulling him into a final hug, handing him something before descending to the deck below.
âSo, I have Marine uniforms for everyone,â Nami stated, everyone surrounding her as she pointed to different points on the map of Loguetown and their Marine base. âWeâll sneak in here,â she said, pointing to a back way vent system, âAnd theyâll be keeping things like treasure and such here,â she said, pointing to a treasury room of sorts, eyes on you. âYouâll go there, Usopp made you a few bombs to blow open the vault door, okay?â you nodded, âAs for the rest of you, we need to stock up, so Iâm assigning you to-â she trailed off in your mind as you stared at the map, trying to memorize it as thoroughly as you could.
âThen whoâs with Clown Lady?â Luffy asked, pointing at you, âShe doesnât have a partner.â
âYes she does,â Nami chuckled, âMe!â she exclaimed, âIâm gonna steal a bunch of their Berry for us, and see what else theyâve got.â
You locked eyes with her for a moment, nodding, âOkay, if youâre going with me, Iâm gonna need to talk to you after this meeting, okay? Gonna explain what Iâm looking for.â You said, her cocking a brow, intrigued.
The meeting wrapped up shortly after, everyone grabbing a Marine uniform and heading to other parts of the ship, only you and Nami remaining. You turned to the young woman and sighed, âCan I trust you?â you asked tentatively, Namiâs face scrunched in offense, going to retort, but you held your hands up and continued, âThis is very important to me, and I need reassurance that you really are on my side here. I need to know you wonât try to take it.â
Nami set her jaw, still clearly a bit peeved, âI wonât take it.â She said, raising a hand to clear her hair out of her face, âI promise.â
You nodded, taking a deep breath, âItâs a Devil Fruit.â You explained, Namiâs eyes shot open, âItâs been in my family for as long as thereâs been Devil Fruit. The Marines stole it during my fatherâs funeral, and I want it back.â
Nami nodded slowly, âOkay, but why?â she asked, âLike you donât seem the type to want powers or something.â
You sighed, leaning against the table that still housed the maps you had been using, âItâs my duty. I have to eat it.â You explained.
Nami shrugged, âWhat happens if youâŠdonât?â
You blinked a few times, trying to process things, âI canât let the Marines have it. Itâs too powerful.â You reasoned. âIt would only make their corruption worse. Nami, itâs called the Kaku Kaku no Mi, the Paint Paint Fruit. It can make soulless versions of living things, you just have to paint it. They could paint an army.â You explained.
Nami sighed, âWhy does it have to be you? Why canât you just, I donât know, throw it in the ocean? Or keep it with us and weâll put it on the top of some mountain, or we could find someone better to eat it.â She suggested, a soft look of concern on her pretty face, âYou shouldnât have to eat it if you donât want to.â
âThereâs too much risk in that, I mean, what if someone finds it in the ocean, or it washes up somewhere? If you guys keep it, what if you get raided, or worse targeted for having it.â
âHave you tried destroying it?â Nami asked, âWe could burn it.â
You thought for a moment, âWould it come back if you burned it?â
Nami shrugged, âIâve heard of it working but Iâve never seen it. If we do it on the ship, worst comes to worst, itâll be on my tangerine tree, and you can eat it then. JustâŠwait?â she suggested.
Your mouth went dry, but you nodded, âI can wait.â
Getting inside of the base went much easier than you expected, you and Nami sneaking around effortlessly, you subtly laying a trail of âbreadcrumbsâ in case you needed to find your way out thatâs less dramatic than a window. The vault is on the third floor, after all.
When you reached the treasury room, you saw a large vault door, guarded by two young Marines, âReally? They put fresh meat on the vault?â you thought to yourself as you and Nami walked up to them.
âShiftâs over boys,â you barked, hoping your age and tone of authority make them listen, âI donât know what you did, but you pissed off Smoker big time. He wants you in his office, immediately.â The two young Marines straightened up in fear, eyes wide as they stammered, saluting you quickly before rushing down the hallway, away from you two.
Nami grinned, âYou gotta teach me how to do that,â
âIâm just a very persuasive person.â You shrugged, digging in your pockets to find the low-level explosives Usopp made you, placing them along the corners of the door. When they were in position, you stepped back, arm out to make Nami move with you, other hand occupied by a dead man switch, your thumb indenting from the pressure of you holding it. âCover your ears.â You said with a smile, letting go of the button.
BOOM, CLANG.
The door now laid flat at your feet, and you and Nami hurried in, Nami immediately shoving Berry and gems and gold into a bag she had brought, while your eyes scanned the room, landing on the large, colorful fruit, âThere you are, you bastard.â You hissed, grabbing the thing and shoving it into your own bag.
âHey! Freeze!â bellowed an older Marine from the other end of the long hallway, already calling on backup.
You grinned and stepped out of the vault, Nami right behind you, âWindow?â you asked her, nodding to the large pane of glass next to you.
âWindow.â She nodded, both of you stepping back before launching at the pane of glass, shoulder first, it shattered around you, both of you freefalling for a moment.
When you landed, Nami was a bit more graceful than you, rolling onto her back. You however hit the ground with a heavy âoofâ, but popped up quickly, breaking into a dead sprint with your crewmate toward the docks. After a moment, you pulled something out of your pocket, a little cackle leaving your throat. Nami looked over at you and saw a remote in your hand, looking back when you pressed it, skidding to a stop.
BOOM
The marine base lit up in a chain reaction of explosions, ending right where you two had jumped out of the window, a rise of massive, orange flames.
âUsoppâs not the only one whoâs been busy making stuff.â You exclaimed, grabbing Namiâs arm and resuming your mad dash to the dock.
âWhat if you hurt the others?!â Nami yelled, running right next to you, âThat was stupid!â You shook your head, âYou sent them to wings that wouldnât have been hurt by the bombs, and theyâre already out!â You called over the wind of your momentum, âLuffy gave me a signal!â you said, gesturing to a small transponder snail connected to your ear. âHeâll pick us up at the dock!â
Nami was befuddled, bewildered, amazed, âYou really are meant to be with Buggy!â she yelled, a laugh breaking through.
Your cackle rose through the air as you spotted the dock, a certain rubber captain waving you over, ready to launch you all onto the ship. âThere he is!â you yelled, pointing to the boy. âLUFFY!â you yelled, waving your arms to tell him to get ready. He grinned wide, readying his stance.
Just when you and Nami were stepping onto the dock, you saw something, a gleam out of the corner of your eye. It was a camera. You smiled wide as you ever had and saluted at the lens.
âIâm coming, Buggy.â You thought, heart fluttering.
âOkay, everybody!â Came the booming voice of your captain, Luffy gathering all of your attention under the night sky, âI have an announcement!â
You all gathered around him, chatter dying down.
Luffy smiled, âToday, we helped our dear Clown Lady achieve one of her goals.â He began, gesturing to you. A chorus of little whoops and whistles resounded with raised liquor bottles and smiles, âNow, I have to let her achieve one of her dreams.â Causing a few confused glances around the group. You smiled at your captain, your hands wrapped around the bag that sat in your lap, âVery very soon, our Clown Lady will be leaving us.â Luffy explained.
A look of understanding overcame your crewmatesâ faces, âShe will be joining another crew, following her heart like I tell all of you to do.â He said, his smile never wavering. âShe will be missed, but I donât want to mope with the time we have left. Letâs celebrate, give her a sendoff sheâll never forget!â He exclaimed to cheers, motioning to Nami, who popped up and quickly retrieved something, a metal barrel with branches and dry grass inside.
âCan I have a light, Sanji?â Nami asked.
The blond cook nodded, âOf course,â he said, taking his lighter out of his pocket, âAnything for my girls.â He said, lighting the flame and lowering it down to the dry kindling, watching it take immediately.
The fire took quickly, a bright orange tower of flames licking into the inky sky above.
Luffy called your name, gesturing for you to âtake the stageâ. You chuckled and rose, taking your captainâs position, him stealing your seat.
âI bet you guys have been wondering what I went to all of this trouble to find.â You began, nervously fiddling with the seam of the burlap bag you still had hung over your shoulder. âWell, here it is,â you said, scooping the large fruit out and holding it up for them all to see. A few shocked gasps resounded from Usopp and Sanji, Zoro only quirking a brow. âThis was my fatherâs Devil Fruit, and his fatherâs, and his fatherâs and so on and so forth as long as Devil Fruit have been around.â You explained, looking at the colorful skin of this thing that has caused you so much strife. âI am meant to be the next in line to eat it, to keep it out of the governmentâs hands. ButâŠâ you trailed off, meeting Namiâs eyes, âI donât think I want to.â You finally said. âI never wanted powers or anything like that. I just want to beâŠnormal. Well, as normal as you can be when youâre a pirate.â You joked, a few snickers around the circle. âNami suggested we try to burn it. See if that destroys it once and for all.â
Zoro frowned, âWhat if it doesnât?â
âThen my one of my tangerines will become the fruit and weâll cross that bridge when we get there.â Nami explained, urging you to go ahead.
You took a deep breath, the sweet scent of the fire offering you a bit of comfort as you held your hands out, hands shaking as the fruit hovered above the fire. âIâll see you in hell, you dumbass fruit.â You said, dropping it into the flames, cheers of your crew mates resounding through the air. The flames ate at the fruit greedily, charring the outside and peeling its skin. The flames kicked up and grew as if you had poured gasoline onto it. As the fire bit into the flesh of the fruit, the flames curled and writhed, heating up even more. The fire burned hotter and faster, consuming the fruit until nothing was left, not even ash.
All was quiet other than the fire as you all eyed the tangerine trees, silently praying that they would stay tangerines. After a solid five minutes, nothing happened and your eyes welled with tears, âI thinkâŠI think it worked.â You whispered, smiles growing all around the crew.
Luffy got up to his feet, bounding up to you, taking you into a swinging hug, âYouâre free, Clown Lady!â he exclaimed as you sobbed into his shoulder, arms wrapped around him tightly.
You sniffled as he settled down, âIâm free, Luffy.â You whispered.
âLetâs party!â Luffy yelled, pulling back from you. âWe got a lot to celebrate!â
Buggy had just docked at a new island, on track for the Grand Line, and frankly on track for Loguetown. He had practically leaped off of the ship when they managed to anchor, running to the town square as quickly as he could.
âSir.â Cabaji said, pushing open the door to Buggyâs captainâs quarters, a grin he was trying to suppress on his face, âThereâs been an explosion at Loguetownâs Marine base.â
Buggy went rigid, head snapping up to look at the unicyclist. âWhat?â
âI think she found it.â Cabaji said, âIâve redirected us to the closest port so you can check.â He explained, letting the smile spread onto his face.
âWhere is it, where is it?â Buggy mumbled, searching over the area to find the bounty board. âThere!â he exclaimed, rushing to it. âCroc, me, Rubber boy, Sword fucker, the cookâŠâ Buggy trailed off as his eyes landed on yours. Your poster. It was a new one, freshly printed. Your bounty had been raised to a clean 20,000,000. But what made him pause was your picture. You were in a Marine uniform, looking right at the camera, a bag strapped over your shoulder, something large and round inside. You were smiling with a little two fingered salute. A big beaming smile. You found it. You blew up a Marine base, and you found it. Heâs in love.
Buggy smiled wide, snatching your poster off of the board, running straight back to the docks, âCABAJI! WEâRE GOING BACK OUT! SHE GOT IT!â
Buggy couldnât drop his smile as he sat on the clown figurehead at the front of the Big Top. His freaks were perturbed, and kept checking on him, making sure he was okay, bringing him food. Buggy hadnât sat up there in years, getting too afraid of falling off, but not now. Now he was sitting on the clownâs head, beaming.
Buggy laid back, arms behind his head and looked up at the stars, wondering if you were looking up at them too. He was having his crew sail through the night, impatient and ready to have you in his arms again. Hell, he didnât even want to sleep. He wasnât going to, but Cabaji practically dragged the clown into his captainâs quarters, violently tucking him in. Buggy thought he wouldnât be able to doze off, but after a while longer of daydreaming about you, he slipped into actual dreams. Dreams of holding you and of quiet nights with you braiding his hair.
When he woke up, he immediately scrambled back onto the figurehead, using binoculars to try and spot the Straw-Hatâs ship. He had slept in, kind of by force, Cabaji not allowing anyone near the captainâs quarters or any loud noises all throughout the ship, all in hopes of forcing Buggy to sleep through the trip to where Cabajiâs contact said the Straw-Hats were anchored, presumably waiting for them.
So there Buggy sat, practically vibrating in excitement, eyes on the horizon. âYou really are whipped,â came a voice from behind him, Cabaji coming up to sit beside Buggy.
Buggy scowled, âIâll push you off.â
Cabaji barked out a laugh, âI bet you would!â Buggy rolled his eyes, âSo, I thought Iâd help you kill some time.â The unicyclist said, clapping his captain on the back, âTell me something about your little Nightingale.â
Buggy huffed out a laugh, âWhat do you wanna know?â
Cabaji shrugged, âYou take her on a date yet?â
Buggy shook his head, âKinda did when I was fifteen, but I donât know if it counts.â He chuckled.
âWhatcha mean?â
âWell,â Buggy began, setting his binoculars in his lap, âFirst off, we werenât dating. Second, we didnât kiss, and third,â Buggy lost the end of his sentence to a laugh for a moment, âwe ended it by running for our lives.â He said, taking off his signature gloves, shoving them in his pocket.
Cabaji smirked, âBest dates do.â He said, nudging Buggyâs shoulder, âWhat happened?â
âDo-do you want to go see a play with me?â Buggy asked, wringing his hands in front of him, afraid to meet your eye.
You grinned and nodded, âOf course!â you exclaimed, ïżœïżœIs Cardinal coming or is it just us?â
Buggy slumped forward a bit, his whole face feeling like it was on fire, âI-I was hoping itâd be just you and me, Nightingale.â He stuttered out, âBut-but I can ask if he wants to come if you want me to!â Buggy added on quickly, waving his hands in front of him, worried heâd made you uncomfortable.
You giggled, grabbing Buggyâs waving hands, âIâd like that, Peacock. Just you and me.â You said, giving his hands a quick squeeze.
âSHEâS HOLDING MY HANDS!â Buggy thought with a start.
Buggy melted a bit, knees a little unstable, loving your laugh and smile, âGo-good!â he exclaimed, âItâs a new play at the theater in the square, itâs called âThe Princess and the Foolâ.â He continued, still having trouble meeting your eye, âItâs apparently really good, Iâve heard tons of people talking about it in the markets today.â
âThat sounds great! How much are tickets?â you asked, beginning to walk toward the center of town, still holding one of Buggyâs hands. Buggyâs heart skipped a beat, but he recovered quicker this time.
Buggy snickered, âYou think weâre paying? Youâre with a real-life pirate!â he exclaimed, jamming a thumb in his chest, âWeâll sneak in! Get into the best seats in the house!â
You laughed, âAnd where would that be?â
âThe balcony, duh. Iâm gonna get us into the rich people seats!â
âOooh,â Cabaji hummed, âI see why you had to run.â
Buggy shook his head with a mischievous smirk, âJust you wait.â
When the two of you reached the heart of the island, you stopped, turning to Buggy, âDo you want to get some dinner first? Or do we have time?â you asked, scanning the area for food stands.
Buggy nodded, âIf we get something fast, we can eat it during the show.â Buggy looked around before an idea dawned on him, âYou-you can pick what we get!â he insisted.
You thought for a moment, still scanning the area, âHow about some arepas from over there and some fries from that one,â you suggested pointing to the different stands, âand we can get some sodas from him!â
Buggy nodded, already walking you two towards the arepa stand. âSounds good to me!â he chirped, âYou know these stands better than I do!â
You laughed loudly as Buggy practically dragged you toward the savory smelling stand. You waved at the happy, portly man who owned and ran it, âHello Mr. Ricardo!â you chimed.
Mr. Ricardo smiled wide, âHello, chicken girl!â he chortled, âThe usual?â
Buggy turned to you briefly, âChicken girl?â
You smiled and waved him off, âTwo of em.â You said, âMake sure itâs all of the good stuff, my friend here hasnât been here before.â
âYes maâam!â he jokingly saluted you, turning to grab a few of his arepas, placing them in wax paper and folding them in a way that made it easy to hold, handing them to you with a grin, âHere you go!â you took the food and said your thanks, reaching into your pocket for your stash of Berry, but Buggy beat you to it, slapping a few notes onto the wooden counter before dragging you to the next stand, you protesting the whole way, âSee you later, chicken girl!â
âYou didnât have to pay for me!â you exclaimed, kicking Buggy in the knee.
Buggyâs hands went to cradle it, hopping on his good foot, âLet me be nice, woman!â he chuckled, âI wanna treat you tonight!â
You pouted a bit, âI feel bad though, you donât have to waste your money on me.â You whined, kicking at some dust on the ground.
Buggyâs smile softened a bit, âItâs never a waste if itâs for you, Gale.â He said, taking one of the sets of arepas from you. You opened your mouth to protest, but he cut you off, âNow, I have two questions, one, whatâs an arepa, and two, chicken girl?â
You sighed, walking with Buggy toward the stand you wanted the fries from, âWell, arepas are basically fillings like cheeses and meats inside of some special kind of flatbread.â Â You explained, ripping off a piece of the shell of one of your arepas, holding it up for Buggy to try, âHere. Try some!â
Buggy felt his ears burn, but he relented, taking the piece you offered into his mouth, careful not to touch your fingers. Buggy liked it, the taste was basic but warming and almost buttery, Buggy hummed in approval, âThatâs good.â He said.
You smiled, putting your hand at your side, âItâs even better with all of the fillings and stuff.â You explained. âAnd he calls me chicken girl because he never remembers my name, and one time I was helping another stall nearby and one of their chickens got out, so I had to chase it! It took all afternoon! I swear that thing was smarter than me!â you both laughed at the silly tale, coming up on the stand you were looking for, âOf course he remembers that and not my name.â
You waved at the new stand owner, holding up two fingers with a smile. She nodded and got to grabbing two paper cones, filling them with the crispy fries. You took them from her with a smile, and she motioned something with her hands. Buggy tried to give her a few notes of Berry, but she waved him off, giving him a wink. Buggy blinked for a moment, putting the money back in his pocket. You frowned and motioned with your hands, communicating something with displeasure. The stall owner simply stuck out her tongue, turning away with a smile.
You sighed and started your way toward the next stand, âShe said she gave us fresh ones,â you explained, handing Buggy a cone. âShe never lets me pay even though I try, says she owes me.â
âWhat for?â he asked.
âI babysit her younger sister all the time,â you explained, âshe has trouble finding help.â
âWhy didnât she talk?â
âSheâs deaf. Her whole family is.â Buggy hummed in understanding, grabbing one of his fries out of his cone with his teeth, hissing at the hot potato, âI go over to their house for dinner sometimes. They love me.â You chuckled, âThey think itâs really cool I learned sign language so I could talk to them.â
âIs that what that was?â Buggy asked. You nodded, âYou should teach me some.â
You grinned at the boy, âIâll teach you a couple after the play.â Buggy agreed eagerly as you got to the last stall. It was actually a cart run by a young boy with one front tooth and a Marineâs cap with the âMarineâ crossed out.
âBrat.â You acknowledged the boy with a curt nod,
âWitch.â He nodded back, âWhatcha need?â Buggy looked between the two of you, bewildered.
âTwo Tonyâs please.â You said simply.
âBratâ nodded and dug two bottles of orange liquid out of some ice, setting them onto the counter, âHundred Berry.â He said, a nod of finality.
You scowled, âIâll knock out your other tooth, you little shit.â
The boy blanched, âTwo berry.â He amended, rubbing the nape of his neck. âGod youâre damned scary.â
You narrowed your eyes at the boy, âIâll tell your mother youâre hiking prices and cursing.â You hissed, lowering your head to his level, âI know itâs only one Berry for two you ass.â
Buggy looked at you in shock, taking in your threatening aura with awe. He couldnât help but think youâd make a damned good pirate.
You ripped a single berry out of your pocket, slapping it onto the cart and grabbing both bottles by the neck, âIâll see you tomorrow, you little conman.â You said, knocking the boyâs hat off of his head. You hooked your arm through Buggyâs and started walking, âCome on, letïżœïżœïżœs go get our seats.â You insisted.
Buggy laughed loudly, âYou gotta tell me the story there.â
You rolled your eyes with a frown, âHeâs my neighbor. I have to watch him all the time for his mom when she goes out to fish, and heâs such a thorn in my side.â You explained, guiding Buggy to the theatre.
âSounds like it.â He chuckled.
You motioned in front of you with your head, âWe going in the front or the back?â you asked.
âWhat do you think?â
âI shouldnât have asked,â you sighed, walking the two of you around to the back end of the large building. Back there you found two windows and an employeeâs only entrance. âDoor or window?â
âIâll try the door first,â Buggy said, pushing at the painted wood with no success. âWindow it is.â He said, backing up to get a better look. âI think I can reach-â âItâs a pull door, Peacock.â You chided, holding open the door.
Buggy blushed, âI knew that.â
As you made your way through the back halls of the theatre, you avoided workers effortlessly, often having to grab Buggy by the hand or the collar and drag him behind corners or next to a crate of some kind. At one point, you found a stray top hat, and put it onto Buggyâs head with a giggle. You quietly made your way up a set of stairs, finding a door that led to a low lit, patterned carpet hallway, âMust be the right way,â you whispered, âItâs looking fancy already.â You both snickered to each other for a moment before quickly making your way down the hall, finding a small set of crushed velvet curtains.
âAfter you, mâlady.â Buggy said dramatically, giving you a bow, top hat in hand and holding open the curtain for you.
You gave a deep, dramatic curtsy, âThank you, mâlord.â You tried to hold in your smile, but you couldnât, a grin splitting your face as you went into the little booth, grabbing Buggyâs hand on the way, causing him to drop the hat.
There was no one else in this particular booth, leaving the two of you alone, only two seats in the little closed off area. You both sat down quickly, settling in and situating your meals between you.
âOh, here.â You whispered, grabbing one of the bottles of soda, âLemme open it.â You quickly put the lip of the bottle cap on the balcony railing and slammed your free hand down onto it, the lid popping off and clattering to the ground. You held the bottle out for Buggy who took it eagerly. You grabbed your own bottle and opened it in the same way. Once it was opened, you leaned back in your plush seat and turned to Buggy, facing him fully, âThis is my favorite drink. Itâs only on our island, itâs a peach and mango soda one of our people came up with!â you explained, holding up your bottle. Buggy did the same, going to clink it against yours, but you wrapped your arm around his, âBottoms up, Peacock.â You said cheekily, taking a sip.
Buggy swallowed dryly before trying a drink of his own, enjoying the sweet flavor and the bite of the bubbles. âThatâs good shit.â He muttered as you untangled your arm from his.
You nodded, pointing to the food he had in his lap, âEat up! While itâs still hot.â You said, grabbing one of your arepas and taking a bite.
Buggy grabbed one of his own and took a bite, âDamn. All the food is so good here.â He thought to himself.
âYou know,â you said through a bite of your food, âIâm glad itâs just you and me tonight.â Buggy almost choked on his food, having to take a double take, âI mean, I think Iâm gonna miss you the most, Peacock.â You muttered, taking another bite. Buggy swears up and down his heart stopped for a moment when you said that. He tried to say something, but you continued, âI think youâre really cool, and I hope Iâll get to see you again after you leave.â
âLADIES AND GENTLEMEN!â Buggy couldnât say what he wanted to, your attention stolen by the man on stage, announcing the start of the play. The lights went down quickly all around the crowd, a spotlight on the announcer, âWelcome!-â Buggy tuned out the manâs spiel, eyes focused on you. Your eyes were wide with wonder as you watched the stage, completely enamored by the theatrics.
Throughout the first act, Buggy found himself looking at you for every reaction, every minute emotion on your face as you watched. You two saw the princess sworn off to a duke of a far-off land to stop a war, as a result she fell into deep sorrow. Her father, the king, saw this and sent his court jester to amuse her, make her laugh, but try as he might, she just canât seem to even smile. Day after day the jester tried, and day after day the princessâs sorrow grew. Finally, she had enough, the wedding was days away and she couldnât take it. She held a dagger over her heart, ready to take her life when the jester appeared. He stopped her and took away the knife, soothing her as she cried. As the act drew to a close, the jester gave a soliloquy about how he was falling in love with the beautiful princess, but he couldnât hope to marry her for fear of execution, speaking as he wrote his thoughts into his journal alongside waxing poetics and jokes to try out, determined to make her laugh. The last scene of the act was of the kingâs advisor finding the journal and opening it, when he did, you gasped and took Buggyâs hand in shock, giving Buggy a heart attack.
âOh my god, Peacock!â you gushed as intermission began, âThis is amazing!â
Buggy smiled, âGlad I got you to come.â
You still held onto Buggyâs hand, leaning closer to him, âI really hope they get to run away together.â
Buggy stiffened slightly, a lump forming in his throat âDo you think sheâd go with him if he asked?â he said tentatively.
âOf course!â you insisted, âSheâs clearly already falling in love with him, and she hates all her responsibilities in her home.â You scoffed, âSounds like a dream come true to me.â You mumbled, resting your head on Buggyâs shoulder.
Buggy stared at you for a moment, hesitant, âWould youâŠwould you want to go with me?â he whispered, his grip on your hand tightening a bit.
You went rigid briefly, âWhat are you asking, Peacock?â
Buggy swallowed his nerves, âWould you like to go away with me, sail with Gol D. Roger?â
You lifted your head, reaching your free hand out to cradle Buggyâs face, sorrow in your eyes, âI canât.â you whispered, moving your hand to the back of Buggyâs head, threading your fingers in his hair. âI want to more than youâll ever know, butâŠI have to stay here.â You said, bringing Buggyâs head close, resting your forehead against his.
âWhy?â Buggy whined, watching as you winced slightly, closing your eyes.
âIâm my parentsâ only child, and theyâre getting old. If I leave, no one will be there to take care of them.â You reasoned, opening your eyes to stare into his, âIf I could, I would sail across the horizon with you tonight.â
Cabaji scowled, âSounds like she has a lot of shit with her parents and responsibility.â He said.
Buggy nodded, forlorn, âSheâs loyal to a fault. Always has been.â
You and Buggy were interrupted by muffled voices in the hall behind you, making you pull away to listen to the intrusion, âWhatâs this hat doing here?â came a gruff voice. You and Buggy paled, eyes wide. âCheck through those curtains,â another voice suggested.
The curtains pulled back, showing you a trio of uniformed Marines, âFuckin asshats.â You mumbled, you two putting your feet on the ground slowly, readying to run.
âWhat are you little shits doing in here?â asked the tallest of the trio. The three immediately blocked off the whole exit, shoulder to shoulder. âCâmere.â The tall one commanded, waving you both over.
You and Buggy shared a look, but walked behind your seats, facing the men head on. âWhat do you want?â you spat, crossing your arms.
One of the Marines with glasses cackled at your abrasive attitude, âFeisty one, heh?â
The last of the three, a man with a patchy beard looked you up and down, a smirk on his face, âPretty lil thing, arenât cha.â
You snarled, about to speak when Buggy beat you to it, âShut the fuck up, you nasty perv.â He hissed, stepping in front of you, moving you behind him.
Beardie scowled, âThe fuck you call me?â he growled, grabbing Buggy by his collar, âCause I know some freak with a fuckin pomegranate for a nose ainât talking shit to me.â Buggy glared, grappling at the hand holding his shirt.
âPut him the fuck down!â You yelled, throwing a right hook against the Marineâs jaw without question, knocking him back. You grabbed Buggyâs hand and kicked beardie in the crotch, dodging away from the other two Marines, and sprinting into the hallway, back out the way you came in, dodging actors and technicians alike, practically dragging him through the theatre.
âGRAB THOSE FUCKERS!â
You two burst out of the building, eyes taking a moment to adjust to the light change, but you plowed onwards, dragging Buggy toward the center of town again, weaving through the stalls. âMARINES!â You yelled out, âMARINES CHASING US!â Now, your island was no normal island. Your island actively chased out or maimed Marines who do anything other than be peaceful and buy shit. So much so, that the second you announced their presence, half the square pulled out a weapon of some kind, going after the trio that tailed you.
You slowed as you approached the fountain in the middle of the square, sitting on its rim, heaving for breath, âDamn, Peacock.â You coughed out, âYou know how to show a girl a good time!â Buggy gave a sarcastic chuckle, sitting next to you, slumping into your side.
âI did have fun though.â You said through your heavy breathing. âWe should hang out one on one more before you leave.â You laughed.
Buggy nodded with a laugh that turned into a coughing fit, âDonât die!â you teased, patting him on the back.
Buggy flipped you the bird as he caught his breath, âFuck you, Gale.â
You smiled and bit your lips, thinking. After a moment you nodded to yourself and leaned into Buggy, laying a peck on his cheek. Buggyâs face lit up beet red, sputtering, trying to find the right words to say.
You just laughed, laying your head back on Buggyâs shoulder, âThank you, Peacock.â
Buggy sighed, fiddling with the binoculars in his lap, âI had to leave only a few days later. When I left, me, her, and Shanks all promised to see each other again, but we never were able to. Not until she helped that Rubber Fucker steal the map.â
Cabaji nodded, a genuine smile on his face, âShe sounds like a good catch, Cap.â
âShe is.â Buggy sighed, bringing his binoculars back up to his eyes, scanning to the left. âHow much farther?â Cabaji laughed, and nudged Buggyâs gaze forwards, to the right. âHoly shit!â Buggy exclaimed, popping up to stand on the clown head, Cabaji following shortly, âTHERE IT IS! SHEâS RIGHT THERE!â
âLetâs get your girl, Captain.â Cabaji said, clapping Buggy on the back before turning back and guiding the man onto the main deck again.
Shortly after, the ships pulled up next to each other and the Big Top laid anchor, Buggyâs crew slamming down a large plank to connect the ships, a chorus of curious murmurs echoing through the quiet space. Afterall, their captain had said nothing of a raid, and he wasnât even wearing his hat and coat.
âAfter you, Captain.â Cabaji said lowly, gesturing for him to walk ahead. âGo get her.â

The First Breakfast
âAra, good morning cook-san. I didn't expect to see you in the kitchen." âOh good morning Robin-chan.â âYou really don't need to do anything. I was going to bring you breakfast.â âI know I can count on you Robin-chan. It's not that. After the intense emotions of the night, I wanted to cook some food and clear my head.â âSo now you are marked?â âYeah.â âHow does it feel?â âLike I'm in the home but more than that. Like I'm belong something that is so great. Like⊠Shit. It feels so amazing that I can't even describe it with words.â âI am very happy for you.â âThank you Robin-chan. Why don't you sit? I'll make your coffee now. Then we'll chat a bit more while I prepare breakfast.â "I would like to so much." âAlright. Sit down there." Robin liked her morning coffee plain. So it was easy to make her morning coffee. Wasting no time, he made her coffee and served it to her. âYour coffee, m'lady.â âThank you, Sanji.â "It's my pleasure m'lady." Then he turned and began to prepare breakfast. Actually, he didn't like to chat while cooking. He avoided the smallest distractions. That way everything could be perfect and his beloved crew members could eat the best food and be happy, but today was an exception because something was obviously bothering Robin. Stress was in the air, and it was the last scent any newly marked omega wanted to smell. âEverything is alright Robin-chan?â "Do I bother you?" "No no. I was just curious. Otherwise, there is no problem. If you still want to tell, there is an ear to listen.â Robin took a sip of her coffee. âI may have been a little jealous.â "You know Luffy would love to take you-" âBut I don't want to be in the pack either, Sanji.â âOh. Why?â âThis is a big deal.â âI know. It's not easy to decide.â âI've never had a pack before. That's why I think even the thought of it is frightening. I was always alone.â âI had a family when I was in Baratie, but I didn't have a pack, and before Baratie I didn't even have a family. Did not have one. I was just on a goddamn ship.â âThen how did you decide? That you want it.â âIt will be a classic answer, but⊠I trusted my instincts. They said it was the right thing to do.â âHmmâŠâ âHave you talked to Usopp, Robin-chan? Maybe you two can help each other.â âHe has very different problems than I do.â Then, taking her coffee, she said: âI'm going to read outside until breakfast is ready. Are you going to eat at nest?" âI plan so. I don't even think the others will get up properly." "Ok. Then I and Long Nose-kun will eat here. Would you set the table for us?" "You don't have to ask, my lady." "Thanks. Also for conversation.â âMy duty, m'lady."
*** âBreakfast is ready Robin-chan. Usopp is already sitting at the table waiting for you. If you want, I can accompany you." âGo be with your pack Sanji. You deserve it.â âThank you Robin-chan.â âGo already.â After Sanji left, Robin went to the kitchen. Usopp was indeed waiting for her. âGood morning Usopp.â âGood morning Robin. Sanji has done wonders again. Man, I thought we'd both have to prepare the breakfast. But he prepared and I'm so happy. His dishes are the best. â âOf course, we have the best cook in the world.â âWe definitely have.â âShall we eat?â âOh right right. Come on.â As the others were not with them, they ate their meals in silence, strangely. Then when tidying up the table: âRobin?â "Don't." âOkay. But-" "I'm not ready." "Me neither." Neither of them was ready to speak or take a step. Usopp was a coward. He was a liar. Robin was way worse than him in both categories.
*** âHey shitheads, of course not you my dearest Nami-swan. Breakfast is ready. Let's eat together." âSANJI!!!â âLet go you asshole. Here is your meal. Take the plates and let's eat at the nest together." âYou are the best. I love you." âUnfortunately, I love you too. Let's not keep the others waiting." The two of them lined up the plates so that they were in the middle of the newly awakened pack members. âGood morning moss head.â âShut up cook. It's so early and you and Luffy are fucking loud. Giving me a headache.â âShut up and eat already.â âAt least don't argue at this breakfast. This is our first breakfast as a pack.â âOf course my beautiful Nami-san. As you wish.â âWhatever witch.â "Don't call Nami-san witch." âMake me.â âWhat did I just say? Cut it!!!â âHahahaha it never gets boring after you two are together.â "Right?" âIt is, and you know what Chopper?â "What?" âFrom now on, we will spend every moment like this because we are a pack.â "Really?" "Really." âLuffy is right, Chopper.â âAbsolutely because there is nothing that can separate us now.â âLet's eat the food. I want to sleep together a little longer.â âZoro is such a softie.â âWhatever.â

A Taste of Summer II
SUNKISSED
One-shot #: 5
Disclaimer: One Piece (and its characters) belongs to Eiichiro Oda-sensei.
Reminder: I have no beta-reader. Any grammatical and spelling errors are solely mine.
Warning: OOC possible. One shot.
Rating: T (Teasing⊠Flirting⊠lots and lots of teasing and flirting. Plus a hint that they probably will have an unwritten sexy time.)
Note:Â Last prompt for the ZoNami Week 2020 at zonamievents in Tumblr. Day 5: Tan Lines. And it only took me months to finish this collection. But itâs done so I can now start my Autumn/Fall prompts.
Summary: His grey eye met hers. And the heat behind it was unmistakable. It was hotter than the sun she loves basking under.
It vaguely registered to him how brilliantly her orange hair shone against the sun.
How it glowed so radiantlyâŠ
VibrantlyâŠ
As fiery as her personality.
Any more thoughts running inside his head came to a standstill when her lips slanted against his to deepen their kiss, prompting him to give her more access to his mouth.
She hummedâa rather, satisfied soundâas her fingernails scratched lightly against his scalp.
Her other hand started rubbing the well-defined muscles of his chest; his own was grasping her by the nape, pushing her closer to him while his free arm all but caged her body against his as their kiss turned aggressive.
She shifted on his lap slightly, pressing herself to him as they continued their lip lock.
They were on the top of the islandâs lighthouse. Nami had seen it when they docked a few days ago and figured it would be nice to get a view of the whole area from that vantage point. But she only got the time to put her plan to action todayâafter arm twisting him to accompany her by reminding him of his accumulated debts these past few weeks from all the stress and waiting he subjected her to.Â
He wasn't all too happy to acquiesce and she already expected that. So she threw in a promise of an undisturbed nap and some booze from the Sunny's secret stash as well.Â
That changed his mind and sealed the deal.
So they headed towards the old white structure after breakfast despite the irritating, non-stop whining of that stupid love cook about how his Nami-swan shouldn't be left alone with himâthe idiot moss head.Â
Once at the top, Zoro settled down the wide gallery deck as Nami set up her surveying tripod and telescope.
The moment she finished⊠she made herself at home on his lap.Â
What was supposedly a 'thank you' kiss had turned into a full blown make out session. And now they are kissing each other like there's no tomorrow.
This is most likely the result of all the tiptoeing they've been doing around each other these past weeks. Ok, more like the tiptoeing HE had been doing these past weeks⊠because Nami already knows what she wanted and was just waiting for him to come around.
âMmmmâŠâ she murmured against his lips, finally managing to pull away after a little while. âAt this rate, Iâm not gonna finish surveying this island.â Her voice was husky, eyes a bit unfocused as she gazed at him.
âNot my fault,â Zoro drawled, stealing one last kiss on her lips before giving her a rather arrogant smirk. âIâm not the one who got comfortable in my lap.â
âIt IS comfortable here,â she agreed cheekily, her hand still rubbing at his pectorals.
"I can see that."
âYou complaining?â
The corners of his lips quirked up some more and he shrugged.Â
Her laugh was melodious as she untangled herself from him.
He must say... he was rather disappointed. How can he easily miss the way she was wrapped around him when it was just merely seconds ago?
"You should stop distracting me Zoro," she teased as she stood up.Â
"Can't help it if you can't stay focused on what you're supposed to be doing."
Nami just chortled at his response. There was that certain twinkle behind her brown eyes as she regarded him... a naughty gleam he had just recently got accustomed to seeing.
She gave him a cat-that-ate-the-canary grin before swiveling around to finally pay attention to her surveying tools.
Zoro leaned back against the metal wall, hands behind his head, ready to pass out anytime as Nami gradually gets into her zone. Itâs not like he will be able to disturb her without risking an increase in his currently renewed debt. Plus, she did promise him booze and an undisturbed nap.
And damn heâs going to get 'em both.
He yawned widely as he felt himself relax at the soporific sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below. His grey eye flitted towards Nami to check on her first before he succumbed to sleep.
The swordsman silently observed her⊠admiring the serene look she had on her face as she scribbled and doodled on that small notebook she had remarkably pulled out somewhere from her tight, pale yellow sundress.
Her orange hair whipped wildly across her face, prompting her to tilt her head towards the wind so they will be blown back and away from her pretty faceâŠ
âŠand sun-kissed shoulders.
âQuit staring at me Zoro,â she suddenly said, looking back at him with a smirk. âYouâre making me blush.â
He scoffed.
She snickered at his reaction and went back to charting the island.
He, on the other hand, went back to watching her.
Her brows were furrowed in what could only mean deep concentration. She chewed on her lower lip as she focused on whatever was jotted down her notebook.Â
He always marveled at the discipline and effort she puts out for her beloved maps. It was almost the same as what he devotes to his training and swordsmanship.
When sheâs like this⊠Zoro realized that he can stare at her forever.
âYouâre still looking, Zoro,â her playful voice broke into his thoughts.
He blinked up at her.
Nami was eyeing him again. Though despite the mischievous grin on her lips, he can see that her cheeks were slightly flushed and he knows that it has nothing to do with the sun.
He inwardly smirked.
âI take it you like what youâre seeing?â
He returned her grin with his signature shark-like one. âAnd if I do? Are you going to charge me for looking?â
âYes. Thatâs 200,000 belis added to your debt.â
â200,000 belis are for groping.â Zoro pointed out, cocking an eyebrow at her.
She looked genuinely surprised that he knows that.Â
âHow come I owe you 200,000?â He asked, frowning. âWait, donât tell me you put a price on earlier?! I didn't grope, you greedy onna!â
âIdiot,â Nami reached down to pinch his cheek. âThat doesnât have a price. The charge is for catching you ogling at me twice!â
âThe hell? You sure are evil,â he grumbled, wrapping a hand around her wrist. A wicked smile suddenly appeared on his face and he tugged her down to him.
She easily let him pull her right back into his lap⊠arms automatically wrapping around his neck.           Â
âAnd thatâs why you like me,â Nami joshed, beaming at him.
âWho says I do?â
She pouted. âDidn't you kiss me because you like me? Oh you wound me!â
The corner of Zoroâs lips twitched amusedly. âYouâre mistaken.â
âAm I really?â
âReally.â
"That wasnât what you said last night.â
She was right. He did say that when they finally talked about what happened in the orchard after they  sneaked out of the villa for a late night stroll along the beach and almost got caught by Robin and Franky.Â
And Brook.
And Usopp.
And Sanji for crying out loud!
Why are their crew mates such night owls?
Luckily they were able to wrap things up about their relationship and managed a kiss or two before nearly encountering their still awake and about friends.
âHello?â Nami tapped his forehead with her knuckles. âAre you still there Zoro?â
âWhat?â He mustâve zoned out, thinking about yesterdayâs events.
âGetting lost in your own thoughts huh?â
"Shut up."
He playfully sank his teeth on one bare shoulder.
âHey!!!"Â
Zoro grinned roguishly at her and immediately planted a kiss on the spot to appease her. âCan't resist. You're being more cheeky than usual."
Nami scowled at him. "Biting will cost you another hundred thousand belis!â
"Just put it on my tab. You have my permission to cash my bounty once my debt reaches it.â
Her eyes widened. Then she sniggered. âYou must like me so much that youâre actually willing to be surrendered to the marines.â
âYeah.â
She blushed when he easily admitted it but instantly recovered her composure as she tossed her head back and laughed loudly.Â
Damn! Who knows Zoro can be endearing sometimes?
Nami kissed his cheek adoringly. âIâll hold on to that. Nothing can make a woman fall so hard than a man willing to be handed over to the marines.â
âTo cash out his millions worth bounty.â Zoro added.
âTo cash out his millions worth bounty.â Nami agreed with a wide smile. âI really like that part a lot.â
âTch. Of course you do. You're a money fiend after all.â
She laughed again and childishly stuck out her tongue at him. âPriorities Zoro.âÂ
âGlad to know Iâm one of the least.â
âUh-huh,â she nipped him on the jaw. âNow I'm going to focus on my other priority," she gestured to her equipment. "The earlier I finish, the sooner we can head back. Robin and I planned to sunbathe while we babysit you boys. Pretty sure you all want to run amok and play before we leave this island.â
âIs that why youâre wearing a swimsuit underneath this?â Zoro inquired as his fingers played with the thin strap of her dress.
âThat and you know how spontaneous our crew is. First it's a barbecue party then the next thing you know one or three of our idiot hammersâ in the sea, drowning."
âYou rarely go after our hammers.â
Nami rolled her eyes exaggeratedly. âThatâs because we have you and Sanji-kun for that.â
âHnnnâŠâ he traced the strap on her shoulder before his finger strayed off path, to run along the bikini string that was diagonally traversing her collarbone.
She shivered slightly under his touch. Something inside her immediately sparked.
âI donât see why you still need to sunbathe,â he was saying as he hooked a finger on her strap, nudging it to the side. âYouâve already had too much sun while weâre staying here.â He touched the tan line she was sporting underneath. âStill not roasted enough?â
Nami looked indignant. âWhat the hell do you mean by that?!â
He chuckled, dipping his head down and kissing the still pale skin.
And she melted just like that... her annoyance instantaneously dissipating. A familiar heat crept up her entire body and she groaned. âDamn it!â
He was looking smug. Absolutely liking the way he affects her.Â
This is better than he expected when he kissed at the orchard.
"Thought we're here to map and nap Nami?"
She narrowed her eyes at him. She was slowly learning that Zoro can be a tease when he wants to.
But she wasn't the kind to just let him one up her. Together or not she wouldn't let him take the upper hand.
She batted her eyelashes at him.Â
"Oh," her voice took on a flirtatious tone. "Here I thought you want to see and touch more."
Apparently Zoro was thinking just the same thing.Â
âOf course I do,â he played along, whispering in her ear. âHow about you lose the dress? Lemme see those tan lines you worked so hard to get?â
It took all her willpower not to let her jaw drop in pure amazement.
Was he really the same person who was hesitant to make the first move? Who managed to turn his back on her while she was top naked in front of him after skinny dipping on the lake?
Who consistently refused to kiss her despite every damn opportunity they have until he cannot stop himself anymore?
She heard the low rumble of his laughter as she just stared blankly at him.
âIs thisâŠâ she managed to say after a few seconds of short circuiting. âYour not-so-subtle way of saying you want me naked?â
âI think Iâve waited long enough Nami.â He stated in that deep, lazy yet light-hearted voice that she was secretly fond of.
A delicious shiver of anticipation ran all over her body and made her skin crawl.
âAnd you actually want me to believe that Roronoa Zoroâs actually interested in things like tan lines and a naked girl?â
He shrugged his shoulders.
âYou!â She exploded when she saw the corner of his lips twitching. Her moron swordsman was trying not to laugh. âQuit teasing me, you idiot!â She bopped him on the head lightly as he finally laugh out loud.
She glared at him as he continued laughing at her expense.
This is going to be one hell of an interesting relationship.
With a vexed-sounding huff, she scooted away from his lap to stand up, giving his leg a nice, good kick.
Zoro caught her by the ankle. Still grinning up at her, he said, âJust go back to your mapping Nami, I still want my nap.â
âDamn right you still do! By all means kindly please pass out now!â Â
âAnd booze.â
âI will drown you later in favorite sake!â
He threw her a cocky smirk as his thumb rubbed circles on the inside of her ankle. âThe sooner you finished the better. We can continue where we left off back at the villa.â
Nami raised an eyebrow at him. âWhere we⊠left off?â
His grey eye met hers. And the heat behind it was unmistakable. It was hotter than the sun she loves basking under to get tanned.
âYou actually thought I was just teasing you?â
